Overview

A CSE free trial provisions a complete CSE product against a tenant, with no activation key and no purchase. The trial can later be converted to a paid license without re-registering the product.

What the trial includes

The standard CSE free trial provides:

  • SPA Advanced and SIA Advanced
  • 25 users
  • 30 days from the date of activation

Scope

The free trial is not part of the Register Product flow. Register Product requires an activation key, which a trial does not have. The trial is started from its own entry point, described below.

Prerequisites

  • A Unified Management account with permission to create tenants and register products.
  • A tenant to hold the trial. A tenant that already contains a CSE product cannot take another one. See How Unified Management Is Organized.

Step 1. Create a tenant

If the customer does not yet have a tenant, create one first. In the Dashboard, start Create Tenant, complete the tenant details, and select Create Tenant and Exit.

Selecting Register Products instead moves you to the next step of the registration wizard, which expects an activation key. For a trial, exit after creating the tenant.

For the full set of tenant fields, see Activate Cloud Secure Edge in MySonicWall.

Step 2. Start the trial

  1. Open the gear menu and select Free Trial.
  2. Locate Cloud Secure Edge and select Try Now.
  3. Select the tenant the trial should be registered to.
  4. Select the data center location.
  5. Enter a name to identify the product.
  6. Select Try Now to confirm.

The data center location is not a Point of Presence. This setting is the Command Center location, which determines data residency for the organization, for example North America or the European Union. It is a separate concept from the Points of Presence that carry user traffic. Points of Presence are selected inside the CSE console. See Points of Presence.

Starting the trial calls the CSE service to provision the organization, which takes several minutes.

Step 3. Confirm the trial provisioned

The registered product receives a unique serial number, which confirms it exists in Unified Management.

On the product’s Licenses tab, confirm that SPA Advanced and SIA Advanced appear, with 25 users and an expiration date 30 days out.

Step 4. Open the CSE Command Center

  1. Change scope to the tenant holding the trial.
  2. Open the product inventory for that tenant.
  3. Select Cloud Secure Edge.

CSE opens in a new browser tab through a single sign-on flow, and lands on the CSE provisioning screen. Configuration from that point is covered in Get Started.

Converting the trial

A trial can be converted to a paid license by three routes:

  1. Monthly subscription, available to partners enrolled in the service provider program. See Provision and Manage a Monthly Subscription.
  2. Buy Now, the self-service purchase in the console. See CSE Licensing and Activation Keys.
  3. An activation key purchased through a distributor, applied to the trial product. See Renew, Upgrade, or Downgrade a CSE License.

Converting does not require creating a new tenant or a new product. The license is applied to the product the trial already created.
